Alexander Vologdin (1896-1971), Russian geologist and palaeontologist, examining a rock containing imprints from a Carassius sp. fish. Vologdin was one of 27 geologists arrested by Soviet authorities in 1949 and sentenced to hard labour. They were accused of withholding information on deposits of mineral ores, including uranium, in Siberia. Vologdin was rehabilitated.
