Lion's mane jellyfish (Cyanea sp.), 18th-century artwork. These jellyfish are mostly found in the northern waters of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. This pencil sketch was drawn by British artist Sydney Parkinson (c.1745-1771) on Captain James Cook's first voyage to the Pacific (1768-1771) in HMS Endeavour. This artwork is part of the collections held at the Natural History Museum, London, UK.
