Elliot P. Joslin (1869-1962), US physician. Joslin was a pioneer of diabetes management. Prior to Joslin's work diabetes was thought of as an obscure disease and there was no treatment for it. Joslin collected enormous amounts of data on diabetic patients. He carried out extensive metabolic studies that showed that restricting carbohydrates and exercise could be used to control the disease. He founded the Joslin Clinic (know known as the Joslin Diabetes Center), which is still the largest diabetes clinic in the world.
