Salt pans on a rocky coast below two lighthouses. Water from the sea is channelled into these pans and allowed to evaporate, leaving the salt behind to be harvested. These are the Salinas Marinas de Fuencaliente salt pans, on La Palma, the Canary Islands. The old lighthouse (left) was built in 1903, but damaged by an earthquake in 1939. The new lighthouse (right) opened in 1985. Photographed in 2013.
