Caption

Common fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) larvae. Also known as the vinegar fly, this is the most widely used animal in medical and biological research. It is a very easy species to keep in laboratory conditions, as it breeds quickly, lays many eggs, and only has four pairs of chromosomes.
