Polarised light micrograph of an Amoeba sp. protozoan. Known for their ability to take any shape, they are often overlooked as decaying organic matter. They use pseudopodia (false feet) for locomotion and feeding. They can be hard to find but normally occupy the top layer of freshwater soil. Magnification: x670 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
