Spindle cell carcinoma of the pharynx, light micrograph of a section of the tumour. Spindle cell carcinoma is a relatively rare malignancy affecting the upper aerodigestive tract. Microscopically irregular, atypical spindle cells widely distributed in a loose stroma mimicking granulation tissue with frequent mitotic figures is typical. It is considered a potentially aggressive cancer with a high incidence of metastases. Magnification: x 250 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue.
