The pattern left behind by cholesterol crystals in atherosclerosis from the human aorta. Athereosclerosis is the name of the process in which deposits of fatty substances, cholesterol, cellular waste products, calcium and other substances build up in the inner lining of an artery. This build up is called plaque and may lead to heart attacks, blood clots and strokes. Magnification:100X.
