Displaced fracture of the radius. Labelled artwork and corresponding X-ray of a closed displaced fracture of the shaft of the radius bone in a patient's left arm. A closed fracture is where the broken bone does not protrude through the skin. A displaced fracture is one where the parts of the broken bone are no longer correctly aligned. Surgery will be needed to fix the bone in the correct alignment to allow it to heal. This is usually done by implanting metal plates fixed with screws.
