Caption

Internal fixation of broken collar bone. Artwork sequence showing the surgical process used to fix a fracture and dislocation of the collar bone (clavicle). This is an anterior view of a patient's left shoulder. The fracture is at the sternum end of the clavicle (the sternoclavicular region). At upper left, two drill holes are made through the clavicular head and a single drill hole through the cortex of the clavicular shaft. At lower right, sutures threaded through the drill holes are used to hold the clavicular head in place while the bone heals.
