Caption

Fractures of the femur and tibia. Labelled artworks of fractures of the femur (thigh bone, left) and the tibia and fibula (lower leg bones, right). This is an anterior view of a mid-shaft femoral fracture, and a posteromedial view of the tibial and fibular fractures. The tibia and femoral fractures are comminuted. A comminuted fracture is where the bone has broken into several pieces, and the fragments are labelled here. These are severe injuries, requiring surgery to reset and pin the bones with rods, plates and screws.
