Orlan spacesuit gloves, composite image. The Orlan suit was designed by the Soviet company NPP Zvezda in 1977 in Russia, to be worn by cosmonauts during extra-vehicular activities (EVAs) in space. The suit has been used by NASA, and a variant of it is used by the Chinese Space Program. It was first used on a spacewalk in 1977 on the Soviet space station Salyut 6. The latest model, called the Orlan-MK, was tested on a spacewalk in 2009.
