Young girl sitting in a cavity in the Willamette iron meteorite. This iron meteorite, which was found in the upper Willamette valley, Oregon, USA, weighs 14 tonnes. It is the largest meteorite ever found in the US and the sixth largest in the world. Iron meteorites are formed from the cores of larger asteroids when they explode.
