Nordlinger Ries crater near time of impact, composite artwork. This crater is located in western Bavaria, Germany. It is thought that a meteorite impact around 14 million years ago created the crater. The impact would have had the energy of 1.8 million Hiroshima bombs. The crater is now home to the town of Nordlingen.
