Pancreatiic cancer, gross specimen. A large, malignant (cancerous) tumour (white, top right) has invaded the pancreas (red, bottom). The pancreas is an organ that secretes digestive enzymes into the digestive system to help break down food. It also secretes hormones to regulate blood sugar levels. This cancer is difficult to detect and treat, as symptoms do not usually occur until the cancer is advanced. Main symptoms include sudden jaundice (yellowing of the skin) and weight loss.
