Caption

Stomach cancer, gross specimen. This is a malignant (cancerous) tumour arising from the glandular epithelium in the stomach lining, called an adenocarcinoma. Risk of developing gastric cancer increases with age and the consumption of salty or pickled foods. The tumour may metastasise (spread) to other parts of the body. Prognosis is poor, as gastric tumours often cause no symptoms until they are advanced.
