Intestinal cancer, light micrograph. This is a section of a malignant (cancerous) tumour in the lining of the small intestine. The purple masses are cancer cells, with tumour stroma (connective tissue) between them. This is a carcinoid tumour, meaning it destabilises the secretion of hormones in the body. It is a difficult cancer to treat as it can metastasise (spread) to other organs.
