Chimpanzee research. At upper left, a chimpanzee is standing on a stack of boxes to reach bananas. A seated chimpanzee is at lower right. This glass negative is from the papers of German psychologist Wolfgang Kohler (1887-1967). Kohler's work at a primate research station in Tenerife resulted in his publication 'The Mentality of Apes' (1917).
