Collage image depicting German soldiers manning guns on the coast of the German-occupied town of Ostend, Belgium, during World War I (1914-1918). British warships are approaching from the sea. Germany invaded Belgium in August 1914, after the Belgian government refused German demands to allow the German army passage through Belgium. The British Government guaranteed military support to Belgium in case of attack from Germany. Photographed between 1914 and 1915.
