Weightlifting dwarfism exhibits. Twins Matjos and Bela (originally from Japan) were exhibited as weight-lifting midgets in the USA. Historically, most people called midgets were born with the medical condition proportionate dwarfism. There are numerous causes of dwarfism. This photograph, which dates from 1918 and was taken at the Barnum and Bailey Circus, was part of the human circus exhibits collections held at the Eugenics Record Office, Cold Spring Harbor, New York, USA.
