Caption

Dressing placed on an infected arterial ulcer on the ankle of an 86 year old man with type 2 diabetes. Arterial ulcers are infected open sores caused by inadequate blood supply. Diabetes can compromise the circulation in the extremities. As a result, small injuries may become deep, chronic, infected ulcers, as the tissues have too poor a blood supply to heal properly.
