Aluminium alloy structure, atom probe tomography (APT). This is a sample of aluminium alloyed with copper, magnesium, zinc and silicon. APT is an imaging technique used to visualise each atom in a sample, along with its chemical composition. Each dot represents one atom. The coloured blocks represent crystals within the sample.
