Kidney cancer. Coloured axial computed tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen of a patient with clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (orange and pink). This is a malignant (cancerous) tumour of the epithelial cells of the kidney. The kidneys filter the blood and produce urine. Treatment is by chemotherapy. If the kidney is too damaged or there is a risk of metastasis (spreading) of the cancer, treatment is by surgical removal of the organ.
