Thighs. Coloured magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of axial sections through the thighs of a healthy 31 year old man (top) and a healthy 81 year old man (bottom). At top of each leg are the quadriceps (anterior leg muscles) and at bottom of each leg are the hamstrings (posterior leg muscles). The femur (thigh bone) is the yellow circle. The younger man has more, and denser, muscle.
