Caption

Tongue ulcer. This is a laceration (wound) of the tongue that has become infected. Common causes of tongue ulcers are tongue biting or scratching, drinking hot fluids, and reactions to certain foods. They tend to heal within 10 days, but may be recurrent. Antiseptic mouthwashes and topical corticosteroids and painkillers are used as treatments.
