Caption

Healing ankle ulcer in a patient with sickle cell anaemia. Sickle cell anaemia is an inherited disorder where red blood cells are sickle-shaped. Affected cells tend to form clots. This obstructs small blood vessels in the extremities, leading to necrosis (death) and ulceration of tissues in the limbs, most commonly in the lower legs.
