Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). This is a heritable disorder of connective tissue, which provides support and structure to skin, tendons, ligaments, bones and organs. It is thought that faulty production of collagen, one of the main components of connective tissue, causes the characteristic stretchy skin and unstable joints in patients with EDS. There is no specific treatment, but patients must avoid strenuous activity, as they are prone to injury and joint dislocation.
