Caption

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This patient is showing the typical 'butterfly' rash symptom of the disease. SLE is an autoimmune disorder, meaning that the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue. It can affect any part of the body, but most often affects the heart, joints and skin. There is no cure for the disease, but it can be managed with immunosuppressant and anti-inflammatory drugs.
