Secondary cancers of the liver. Clinical specimen of a liver showing secondary cancer (metastases, one at lower left) that have spread from a primary cancer elsewhere in the body. These cancers spread from a prostate cancer. The liver is the largest gland in the body. Its many vital roles include metabolising nutrients and detoxifying the blood. The prognosis for secondary liver cancer is poor.
