A pile of Peat that has been stacked up to be used as fuel in western Ireland. Peat accumulates in peat bogs, and is the result of decaying plant material, mainly sphagnum moss. The peatland ecosystem is the most efficient carbon sink on the planet. Peat is harvested as an important source of fuel in Ireland.
