Sulphuric acid. Computer model of a molecule of sulphuric acid. This acid is one of the most important industrial chemicals, and has many laboratory uses as well. In industry, it is used for refining petroleum, and in the production of fertilisers and paints. In the laboratory, it is used as a stock strong acid, and also can be used as an dehydrating agent and an oxidising agent. It is also the acid found in lead-acid car batteries. The molecule's chemical formula is H2.S.O4. The atoms are represented as colour-coded spheres in this ball-and-stick model: hydrogen (gold), oxygen (red) and sulphur (yellow).
