Caption

Compilation of several high-speed footage clips showing sprites flickering above storm clouds. Sprites are a high-altitude electrical phenomenon associated with positive lightning strikes from cumulonimbus clouds. This sequence shows how they appear to dance horizontally in sequence over the storm far below. Although triggered by lightning, they are not strictly a type of lightning themselves. Filmed from Colorado, USA, in summer.
