Water molecules. Diagram showing the bonding in water molecules. The atoms at centre and right are represented as balls and sticks, and are colour-coded: hydrogen (white) and oxygen (red). The hydrogen bonds (yellow) arise from the attraction between the positive and negative charges produced by the distributions of electrons within the molecule (inset at left). The inset at upper right shows water molecule men, with the body being the oxygen atom, the arms being the electrons surrounding the oxygen atom (negatively charged), and the legs being the two hydrogen atoms (positively charged).
