Caption

Small intestine. Endoscopic view of the normal interior of a person's ileum - the small intestine. The healthy intestinal lining (mucosa) with villi (finger-like protrusions) is clearly visible. This is the region of the gastrointestinal tract where nutrients are absorbed through the villi as food is digested. This image comes from a capsule endoscope, a pill-sized camera with light source, which is swallowed and transmits images as it passes through the digestive tract.
