Coxiella burnetti bacteria, coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM). This bacterium affects humans and other animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, cats and dogs. It is the cause of Q fever, a highly infectious, influenza-like, febrile illness. It is transmitted to humans via sheep, goats and cattle, by the inhalation of contaminated dust or droplets from bodily fluids of infected animals.
