Paper fibers. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of paper fibres from a laboratory wipe. Unlike the fibres in ordinary paper and newspaper (which are mechanically separated), these wood fibres have been chemically separated. The circles (centre left) on one of the fibres are the xylem tubes that transported water through the plant.
