Alcibiades (c.450-404 BC), Ancient Greek statesman. Alcibiades rose to prominence as a military advisor, fighting for both Athens and Sparta during the Peloponnesian War. There are conflicting accounts of his death, but it is thought that he was assassinated by the Spartans. Artwork from the 1615 Italian edition of 'De humana physiognomonia' (On Human Physiognomy, 1586) by Italian scholar Giambattista della Porta.
