Computer graphics of a renin molecule, an enzyme released into the blood by the kidney in response to stress. It reacts with a substance from the liver to produce angiotensin, which causes constriction of the blood vessels and an increase of blood pressure. Excessive amounts of renin in the body results in renal hypertension.
