Desert horned lizard (Phrynosoma platyrhinos) skull and eyeball, artwork. This lizard is native to the deserts and semi-arid areas of western North America. The horns on its head are true horns, with a bony core (one visible at upper right). This lizard is a predator, feeding mainly on invertebrates, such as ants, flies, crickets, beetles, grasshoppers and worms. It grows to lengths of around 8-12 centimetres.
