Preparation for oesophagogastrectomy surgery. A set of tubes all lead to a line entering a blood vessel in the patient's neck. They will be used to deliver anaesthetic and other drugs, to supply blood, or to take blood samples. Oesophagogastrectomy is an operation to remove the lower part of the oesophagus, and the upper part of the stomach. The remaining part of the oesophagus is then surgically joined to the remaining part of the stomach. The procedure is commonly carried out to remove cancerous tissue in the region.
