Intubated patient. An anaesthetised patient who has been intubated prior to undergoing oesophagogastrectomy surgery. Intubation involves inserting a tube into a person's airway in order to provide artificial respiration. Oesophagogastrectomy is an operation to remove the lower part of the oesophagus, and the upper part of the stomach. The procedure is commonly carried out to remove cancerous tissue in the region.
