Ascaris roundworm, coloured environmental scanning electron micrograph (ESEM). This is the head and mouth of the roundworm, with the mouth showing threefold symmetry. Ascaris is a parasitic roundworm (a type of nematode worm) with a length ranging from 20-40 centimetres. It attached to its host in the small intestine, where it feeds on the intestinal contents.
