Sinusitis is a bacterial infection of the sinuses (air-filled cavities in the skull). The sinus cavity, the infected area, is highlighted in light pink and is located in the top nasal area beneath the eye. Sinus infections can cause nasal polyps, shown in the nasal cavity and highlighted in yellow. Nasal polyps are swellings in the mucous membrane.
