Scanning Electron Micrograph of a Radiolarian skeleton. Radiolarians are amoeboid protozoa that produce intricate mineral skeletons. They are found as zooplankton throughout the ocean, and their skeletal remains cover large portions of the ocean bottom as radiolarian ooze. This specimen has a ridged vase shape, with small pores and three lips; seen from the side. Magnification: 800X at 5x7'.
