Scanning Electron Micrograph of a Radiolarian skeleton. Radiolarians are amoeboid protozoa that produce intricate mineral skeletons. They are found as zooplankton throughout the ocean, and their skeletal remains cover large portions of the ocean bottom as radiolarian ooze. They come in many different forms. This specimen is a small sphere with large pores and very large paired spines. Magnification: 380X at 5x7'.
