Mother (right) watching as her daughter undergoes a health checkup. Photographed in New Hampshire, USA, in the 1920s. Starting on 1st May 1924, May Day was designated Child Health Day in the United States and its territories. The American Child Health Association, which started the observance, was founded in 1923 when the Child Health Organization and the American Child Hygiene Association merged.
