Henry Heide (1846-1931), German-born US sweet manufacturer. Heide, of Dutch descent, was born in Obermarsberg, Westphalia, Germany and emigrated to the USA in 1866. He founded the Henry Heide Candy Company in New York in 1869, and married in 1873. His most famous product, jujyfruits or jujubes, were first produced in 1920. The company was sold to Hershey Foods Corporation in 1995. Heide, a philanthropist, was a member of the Academy of Political Science, the US Historical Society, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the American Museum of Natural History. He died in New York at the age of 85.
