Ribozyme enzyme. Artwork of a ribozyme enzyme (yellow & orange) cleaving mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid, blue). Enzymes are biological catalysts, each one increasing the rate of a specific chemical reaction. At upper left a ribosome (white) is transcribing a section of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid, green) coding for a particular protein into an mRNA strand. The mRNA would then be transcribed into its corresponding protein in the cell's cytoplasm. In this case however, the ribozyme is cleaving the mRNA, blocking protein synthesis. Unlike most enzymes.
