Wind research. Laser shining on a model of Charles de Gaulle airport in a tank of water used to simulate a vertical column of air. Salt water and freshwater in the tank mimic cold air and hot air respectively. The laser measures the velocity of the water, which corresponds to turbulence in the air. Photographed at the National Centre for Meteorological Research, Toulouse, France.
