Foetal alcohol syndrome baby. Artwork with labels illustrating the facial features of a baby with foetal alcohol syndrome (FAS). This is a condition in infants that is caused by alcohol consumption by the mother when pregnant. Mental and physical defects such as a small head, flat face, epicanthal folds (inner eyelid fold), smooth philtrum (central groove in upper lip), thin upper lip, small eye openings, short nose, low nasal bridge (bony upper part of nose), and underdeveloped jaw, are common symptoms of this condition.
